COLLECT RECORDERS & MUSIC BOOKS

In the Classroom

Asking students to share the gift of music across the globe provides an ideal service learning opportunity! Hearing that a student in Kenya has very few possessions much less a musical instrument of their own often sparks immediate desires to help! First, music teachers ask students to get their parents' approval if they would like to donate their recorder and music book. This is followed up by an email to parents with a short summary of the program and a link to our website and Facebook page.

Music teachers then collect and sanitize the recorders by running them through a dishwasher or sterilizing solution. School cafeterias are often willing to help. They then ship the recorders to Recorders without Borders.

In the Community

Civic organizations like Scouts, service groups, private music schools, choirs and others looking for a community service project can conduct a "Recorder Drive." Like a book drive, the group publicizes the collection and provides a donation box. The organization sanitizes the recorders by running them through the dishwasher. When the drive is over, contact Recorders without Borders concerning shipping of sanitized recorders and music books.
